Co-Curricular
Educational Programs
Co-curricular
educational programs offer undergraduates in Animal Sciences
a unique opportunity to represent their department and university
in intercollegiate competition while enhancing their academic
program. Students in these programs learn much about subject
matter but also, and possibly more importantly, learn to gather
and analyze information, make decisions and communicate the
reasons for their decisions. Students will meet many industry
leaders and gain much from interstate travel associated with
these programs.
Livestock Selection and Evaluation Team.
Students on this team evaluate and select beef cattle, swine
and sheep in a series of regional and national contests held
in the spring and fall. Team members travel and visit many
farms and other universities. They advance their decision-making
and communication skills as well as their knowledge of the
livestock industry. The number of team members varies,
but averages ten. Completing Animal Sciences 300 is
a prerequisite; Animal Sciences 305 is also recommended. Contact
